Emirati chess player Moza Al-Shamsi achieved a historic local and Arab victory by winning the Amateur World Chess Championship, which concluded in the Serbian city of Frýdek-Místek. The tournament featured a wide participation of elite players from various countries around the world.
The Emirati champion asserted her dominance from the early rounds to the final crowning, finishing ahead of Kazakhstan's Ella Konyshbaeva, who took second place, and India's Disha Usha, who secured third place.
This world title marks a new qualitative achievement for the Al-Ain Chess and Mind Games Club, as it is the club's first-ever individual world title. It is also the club's second world championship, following its victory in last year's World Rapid Chess Team Championship, further solidifying its status as a "world-class sports community institution."
Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Sultan bin Shakbut Al Nahyan, President of the Al-Ain Chess and Mind Games Club, emphasized that the achievement reinforces the club's identity and its vision as a global sports community institution. He affirmed that the people of the UAE are capable of achieving global success in various fields.
He stated: "What Moza Al-Shamsi has presented is a culmination of a collective team effort and a high level of professionalism. We are immensely proud that this world title is recorded in the name of our state and the Al-Ain Club."
Meanwhile, the President of the UAE Chess Federation, Tarek Matar Tareek, considered Moza Al-Shamsi's achievement a new chapter in the history of the game in the country, confirming that the federation will build on this success to achieve more international victories in the coming period.
In turn, world champion Moza Al-Shamsi expressed her great pride in this title, saying: "I dedicate this world achievement to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to the rulers of the Emirates, and to His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and to His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Representative of the Ruler in the Al-Ain Region, in appreciation of their continuous support for youth and sports, and to my family, coaches, and everyone who stood by my side."
